Blanket shirt: Done! -ish
The trim is on, the closures are on, I declare this shirt done enough for now. Yay! I have a detachable hood to sew and I have a bit of trim left, so I may do more, but I am happy with this. Note to self: brush off lint before taking photos. Oh well.
This is a project that Mom and I found in the bottom of a cedar chest. I started this farmer’s shirt for my sister when she was still young. Never finished, and now it fits none of us. Cool shirt, hard to get fabric, it needs to get done. It will fit someone someday.
And, heck why not? Let’s learn hand-sew buttonholes while were at it! I have completed 3, and have 4 to go. I am finding hand-sewn button holes in navy thread on a navy fabric that is a loose weave–difficult. Like really difficult. I do not like how they are turning out, but I am kinda committed at this point. I am posting it here to push me to finish them. Gah. I suppose it takes a while to get them right. Perhaps by the last top buttonhole I’ll have it down!
My hemp/wool blanket is coming along. 15 more squares (1/8th left–sounds like a lot when put that way). If I push it this can get done pretty quickly. After that there are borders to knit, assembly, and then…flowers! The colors make me think of a late summer field, so flowers felt right. I have a big retro flower idea that will take some maths (and we saw how well those maths worked for me on the sweater), though I can see knitting up a variety of foliage and seeing what happens. Goal is to make foliage and flowers until I run out of yarn. Might end up a bit fecund, we’ll see.
Hopefully I will not succumb to the urge to make it bigger and buy more yarn. This was supposed to be a clearance yarn project. This hemp/wool is kinda lux, and I found it on 60% off. Yay me! Sadly and predictably there was not enough yarn at the clearance price to finish the blanket, so I have been adding to it at full price. Budget blanket no more! I do think I’ll love it once done, though.
