Personal Knitting,  Process

February, oh February

February is where winter starts to feel very…long. We have a blizzard warning tonight. I see continued crafting in my future.

So what am I working on? Re-knitting a sweater and a blanket that will be quite the bit of exuberance by the time I’m done.

Second time’s the charm?

When I knit this the first time, I just kinda winged it. Sad to say it did not go well for me. So, yesterday I got up the gumption to unravel it. I got a book, “Strange Brew” by Tin Can Knits, and it has a nice formula for knitting a top-up Icelandic-style sweater. We will see how round 2 goes. 2 colors of Bartlett got on clearance. Gonna make it work this time.

3rd of 4 panels completed!

I found this beautiful hemp/wool yarn on clearance. WoCa by Adriafil. The pattern is “Hue Shift Afghan” from Knit Picks. I felt I could afford to make a blanket at 60% off. No surprise to anyone who does this sort of thing, my first purchase was not enough. Once I got to half done I weighed it, weighed all remaining yarn, and found out that, well, a few more balls could be useful. So not so cheap, but oh well.

What I see when I look at this is a late summer grassy field. The plan is to knit some large flowers in that red, and also in a violet, and appliqué them randomly on the blanket. It will also have a fairly wide garter stitch border.

I’ve got lots of other things brewing, not all are knitting. I’ll post them as I make progress.
